Sniping

Sniper Elite 2 is 66% off on Steam today. I’ve never played the original, but reading the description, with all its talk of stealthily moving through the ruins of a town to find the best position without being spotted, made it sound quite fun and exciting.

Until this part:

Watch as the celebrated ‘bullet cam’ from Sniper Elite returns, bloodier and more gruesome than ever – skilful shots are rewarded with a slow-motion flight of the bullet, then targets are graphically rendered in X-Ray as the bullet enters and destroys your victim. Organs shred, bones splinter, teeth shatter, as the true impact of the sniper’s bullet is brought to life.

Umm… no thanks. I’m not sure who Rebellion thinks their target audience is, but despite the fact I play video games that sometimes involve shooting people, I DON’T ACTUALLY WANT TO SHOOT PEOPLE. Perhaps their argument is that it makes the player more aware of the true horrors of war, but the breathlessly excited text doesn’t give me hope. And if that were really the case, why would anyone come back to the game once that lesson was learned? This smacks of gore-porn more than anything.

Rest assured that the all the triangles in Shootah will die in a very tasteful manner.
